Old girl’s got leaks!

What is it with old cars and problems?  Oh, it’s because they’re old?  Ohhhh yyyeaaaahhhhhhh.

Well my heater core decided to give out this week and pee coolant all over my foot.  This wasn’t too big of a problem though–since it was summer–I decided to just bypass the core.

It’s pretty easy to do this, all you have to do is to remove and cap the old hard lines from the heater core.  Then loop the old lines onto themselves.  Technically I could of just got one joint and looped the hose, but I decided to go fancy.

Now you could buy one of these hoses for about $20 but you can also put one together for a little less depending on what you have available to you.  I just used a couple of hose connectors and a bit of 5/8″ hose.  Then used bypass caps to close off the heater core.

Well it all worked out and now I have no heater.  For the time being, that’s fine, but we’ll see what happens when it gets cold.

Happy motoring everyone!
